Beautiful + Healthy Skin Tips

I really love my new line of work...the skincare field!
I am learning so much about our skin and how to get it beautiful and keep it beautiful.
I thought I would share some of my own personal tips with you...including my skin regimen.

There are lots of things you can do to keep your skin looking young and fresh and the number one essential on my list would be to WEAR SUNSCREEN!

1. SUNSCREEN: Obviously we can not completely avoid the sun, so when you are out in it, unless you want to end up like a prune, wear sunscreen and definitely do not go to the tanning bed.  That's the fastest and best ways to get wrinkles...and skin cancer!

2. WATER: Drink LOTS of water!  AT LEAST 64 ounces a day and more if possible.

3. EAT HEALTHY: Foods like spinach + sweet potatoes are full of vitamin C, salmon and nuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, peanut butter and eggs are high in biotin.  Healthy foods paired with a good multi-vitamin (my favorite is a prenatal vitamin!) are a great way to help your skin look and feel it's best.

Here's are some other wonderful-for-your-skin foods:

4. SKIN ROUTINE:  As much as I despise washing my face, it's really important to get all that dirt and makeup off of your skin before bed...especially if you have on foundation!

I've had some questions about my own skin routine and my new business, so I decided to share it with you all..don't be overwhelmed...I don't do EVERYTHING every night!:

I LOVE Rodan+Fields Anti Age Regimen.  It has dummy-proof numbers on each bottle and it has TRANSFORMED my blah, broken out, oily and yet dry patched skin into smooth, clear, no acne to be found skin.  I will cry if they ever get rid of this...for real.

1.  The cleansing mask.  It has a clay base which draws dirt out of your skin AND exfoliating micro beads. It leaves your skin feeling clean but not tight, because it doesn't strip your skin of it's moisture!

I smear it on my face and I brush my teeth...or change a diaper...or put the dishes in the dishwasher...or get in the bath tub.
Then I wash it off!

 2.  PORE MINIMIZING toner...I take a gauze pad, pour a little on and wipe over my face...takes 5 seconds.  This is a great toner because it actually shrinks your pores.  Starting at age 30, we start losing 1% of collagen each year.  Collagen loss leads to bad, saggy skin and HUGE pores!  That's why a toner like this is so important.

3. Cream.  This is where some people get leery.  Especially if you are prone to oily skin but let me just tell you, these creams are miracles in a jar.  They actually have improved my oily prone skin. The regimen comes with an AM and PM cream to help fight wrinkles (and it's NEVER too early to start fighting and preventing wrinkles!).  I also use the amazing and magical eye cream.  I have an infant and a 3 year old who has decided to start waking in the middle of the night and yelling for a light to be turned on...my night sleep is not always the greatest so this eye cream saves me from looking the way I feel.  It decreases puffiness, helps in the appearance of wrinkles AND fades dark eye circles! I'm not sure how much better it gets than that...seriously.

Eye cream results:

Talk about these for real results.  This is my friend Sherri.  She is also my hairdresser and my new customer.  This is her amazing picture before and only 5 days after starting Anti-Age:

More results:

These are steps I do about twice a week.
MICRODERMABRASION PASTE: I have used my fair share of microdermabrasion products and this BY FAR beats them ALL!!!  It makes my skin super clean, soft, and bright.
It's also GREAT for acne!

NIGHT SERUM:  This is silk in a capsule.  I love to use this right after the microdermabrasion paste.  It's full of peptides and retinol and it is your best bet to packing an anti-wrinkle "OOMPH!"
This can also be used on stretch marks!

Serum used on tummy area:

I also like to add these in the mix.  These are from the UNBLEMISH line...acne hates these bad boys because they work!
The wash is a sulfur base, extremely effective for acne.
The dual intensive acne treatment is hands down, amazing.  They found that storing the benzoyl peroxide in it's own chamber causes it to be more effective at fighting acne, and even preventing breakouts before they occur. As soon as I see a bump, or feel a bump forming, I run and put this on!  I actually use it to prevent as well!

The wash smells good to me and it's purple!!!

UNBLEMISH regimen results (3 DAYS for these results!!!):

SELF TANNER: And this, dear friends, is a dream tan in a bottle.  I have tried just about every self tanner imaginable. My search stops here.
It is a foam that dries quickly and the color appears within a couple of hours!  It doesn't smell.
I repeat:
It DOES NOT SMELL!!!!
Plus, it doesn't make me feel sticky and gross.  I put it on after I shower and I still feel nice and clean afterwards because it's non-greasy and quick drying.  Perfect for getting a safe tan and keeping it through the winter!

So there ya have it!

All of that being said...take care of your skin..it's your largest organ!
Whether you decide to try out Rodan+Fields, or if you already have a regimen that gives you your dream skin...keep using it!
Good skin = good health, which also equals lots of young looking people running around ;-)
Here's to being 26 FOREVER!!! (Or 30, or 40, or 50!)
AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!!!
Football weekends ARE HERE!!! Woo hoo!!!

Nutella and Marshmallow Popcorn

I happened upon the idea of making this out of pure hunger!
Today at the grocery store, we made a quick walk through, grabbing odds and ends.
When we got home and realized we had popcorn (the kind you handmake on the stove...the best kind in my humble opinion!!!) AND Nutella...well actually, JIFF makes a brand of chocolate hazelnut spread now.  We love BOTH!  We also had marshmallows on hand, after all, they are a staple RIGHT?

We made the popcorn...ate some of it.
Then we decided to melt some nutella and mix the popcorn around in it...and that was DELISH!!!

THEN we had the idea of melting marshmallows AND Nutella together, rolling the popcorn around in it and creating Nutella and Marshmallow Popcorn balls...OH MY WORD!

I can't even explain the deliciousness we created today.  All I can say is that it's a day we will write in history....or at least our family planner (oh wait, we don't have one of those).
At least I'm blogging about it!

The recipe is very flexible.  After all, we are dealing with 3 main ingredients so the combination of them and the amounts are totally your choice, but here are the basic recipes to get you started:

NUTELLA POPCORN
6 cups of popcorn
4 tablespoons of Nutella
Melt Nutella in a saucepan or a microwave safe bowl.
Dump popcorn in and toss around with a spoon until popcorn has a nice coating.

NUTELLA MARSHMALLOW POPCORN BALLS
3 cups of marshmallows
Pat of butter
4 Tablespoons Nutella
6 cups of popcorn

In a saucepan OR microwave safe bowl, melt the marshmallows, butter, and Nutella together.
Add the popcorn and stir until coated.
Using hands, form into balls OR spread into a pan and cut like you would Rice Krispy treats!
You can stick these in the fridge to cool faster.
ENJOY!!!

He did...

Top Thursday

Because I'm kind of in a blog rut...I think my brain is in shut down mode!  I can't seem to think of anything worthwhile to blog about this week.  We have hardly been home and I think my exhaustion is leading me to not be able to think straight.  Sooo, I am doing what any normal blogger would do and I'm cheating by posting my favorite Pinterest finds this week!
I have just enough brain power for this kind of post...although I am midway through 2 fun DIY projects!!!  I'm excited to post them when I get them finished.

In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of other bloggers labor:

Goodbye Summer

We have enjoyed our pool passes this year.
The first time we went, at the end of May, Lorelei was just a month old!  I can't believe how fast this summer has gone.
Today was the last weekday that our pool was open.
All the kids go back to school within the next 2 weeks around this town and all the summer pools will be closing up shop.
It has been such a great outlet for us on days when we just needed out!
As a special treat for the last day, I let Caleb pick a meal from the snack bar.
He chose a hotdog, fries and a Coke.

I think little Miss Blue Eyes was eyeing the food too!

I have spent so many summer days watching Caleb play in the pool and holding this sweet baby under the shade trees.
It's so much more than just the last pool day of the season.
It represents my babies getting one season older, a new routine that we will have to get used to, a fun time of watching Caleb and Lorelei experience life and fun in a new environment come to a close.
It brings up questions in my mind of where we will be next summer.
It's not just a summer of pool passes that we used, it was a summer of learning and friends and new things and adjusting to life with a newborn.
I know the future will hold great, new experiences but for today, I want to relish in the one's we were able to have over this last season and be thankful for the blessings this summer has brought.
So thankful to Jesus for keeping us all safe and healthy and allowing us these wonderful times together that help to shape the people my children will grow up to be!
It's not just the big events in life that shape them, it's in the everyday too :)

As a super special treat, Caleb got to pick out an ice cream on our way out.
He picked a sour patch kid ice cream.
It melted on our way out to the car, but he licked every last drop of that ice cream treat.
I hope he will remember this fun summer we had.
I know I will never forget it.

For the birds

One of the sweetest friends I have ever had asked me if I would paint a picture for her to hang in her kitchen...she wanted a bird with a Bible verse on it and left the rest up to me.

I was so excited and this is what I came up with:

I painted a green one just because I wanted to :)

Since I started my Rodan+Fields business, I have surprisingly had more time (and funds) for fun craft projects.  I had so much fun painting these birds and I have another painting for another friend that I will be working on soon!  It's going to be a cute one for her baby boy's nursery.
I'm very excited and flattered to be doing it!

How is your week going?
Have you done anything crafty yet?

My favorite kids crafts

I'm sharing the kid craft love today.

With the first day of school right around the corner, these ideas are a great way to end your summer with a bang...and keep your kids occupied because I'm sure every mom out there has heard her fair share of "I'm boredddd!" this summer :)

Here are a few of my favorite, colorful kids crafts and fun recipes!

Edible Food Painting

Make your own rock candy

Paper Plate Hats

Jello Cookies...these are just beautiful and look fun to eat!!!

As ready for school as you may be, try to enjoy these last few days or weeks with your little ones before you send them off into the big world of school!

Take a few minutes to talk to them about the new school year coming up. Ask them what they are excited about and remind them of all the things they should remember.
Like, being nice to everyone, even if they're different, sharing and including everyone, and being respectful to their teacher, the people AND things around them.

These are things I am trying to teach Caleb already in preparation of his upcoming school years!
Caleb is not perfect by any means, but we have run into our fair share of bullies and just down right "mean for no reason" kids.  We've also been around kids who are completely reliant on their moms and expect 100% attention all the time.  I take these moments to teach Caleb about why other children's behavior is not ok...just about every bad situation can be turned into a learning experience (and I doubt Caleb has never been the "bad" example for other mom's to teach their kids about!).

I love that Caleb is an independent little guy.  He is smart and he learns so much because I don't cater to his every little whine.  I always let him try something that he thinks he isn't capable of before I help him.  Lots of times, he figures it out himself!
I've definitely learned that the more I cater to Caleb's cries for attention, the more he thinks he can get attention by whining!  Sometimes, ignoring him is the best answer, and sometimes he really does need a few minutes of my time.  The tricky part is getting a happy balance down pat!
This is all just part of growing up and parenting though.

I think at this young age, parents have a huge responsibility to instill good character in their children.  These are the few years that we have before they start looking to other people for answers!  Take advantage of every moment of this time...the world needs more good kids who grow up and become the leaders of our country.  It's never too early to start!
