Look what the stork brought

24 years ago today, the stork brought all 9lb 10oz of me!  That was one strong stork.

Now that I am a mama, I think that mama's deserve a pat on the back on their children's birthdays too... after all, it took a lot of work to get us here!  So, good job mama...you sure did have a great baby! hehe

Open for Business

I took a small shop hiatus and it was very relaxing, but now I am back in business!  Would someone please buy this extra large peacock mug?  It is my favorite and if it doesn't sell soon I will be adding it to my personal coffee cup collection...and I really shouldn't do that ;-)

And don't forget about little ol' cutie pants...

Before and After- Armoire Edition

Remember the black armoire that I wanted to makeover?  Well, I finally finished it.  After several coats of paint and a few designs that were painted over, I finally came up with something I like (for now at least, I am always changing my style!).

Before:

After:

My process:
3 coats of white paint
Medium grain sandpaper for distressing
Using the same technique for the baby painting to do the design on the doors.
and Voila!
I tried changing out the knobs for some pretty aqua glass knobs that I got on sale at anthro, but I didn't like the way it looked so I just painted the original ones white.  I am very satisfied with it.  I didn't want it to be completely traditional but I didn't want it to be really modern either.  I tried to find a good balance between traditional modern.  I really wanted to do turquoise on it but I made myself commit to yellow because I have sooo much turquoise in my living room already!  I just can't get enough of that color!  I am also working on a lampshade makeover...I hope to have it finished and ready to show you guys by the end of the week.  Being on a creative hiatus in Texas for the past few weeks has really given me a lot of creative energy.  I am getting projects knocked out left and right...that and some coffee has been very helpful. Caleb likes to grab my pencils when I put them down and draw on thing.  So far he has managed to scribble scrabble on my armoire door and the front door...I guess he has the creative bug too :-)

ABC art tutorial for everyone! DIY for the non-DIYers

This tutorial requires very little artistic ability, although if you are artistic it is still a very fun project... which makes it perfect for everyone!  I love a good ABC art piece in a baby or kids room and this is fun and easy:

Step One: Choose your canvas size (or you can paint on sturdy paper).  Paint your canvas the color of your choice.  I did a pale blue and white.

Step 2:  With a pencil, lightly draw circles as evenly as you can onto your canvas.  Keep in mind that you need at least 26 circles in order to fit the entire alphabet- although I am sure you could have figured that out on your own :-)  I did 6 circles by 5 circles.  I intentionally wanted my circles to be almost square like...have fun with the shapes though...you can do squares, triangles...anything you want!

Step 3:
Paint your circles.  I used one color but it would be very cute with 2 or more alternating colors that match your child's room.

Step 4:
Write in your letters with a paint pen and voila'...an easy masterpiece that anyone can do!

And don't forget to send us a picture if you make one :-)

p.s. This would be a perfect baby shower gift...how sweet would it be to give the baby something personal that you made?

Much to my surprise!

I came home after being away for 2 1/2 weeks to a ton of veggies on the vines!  Thanks to great friends who watered them while I was gone, I now have delicious cherry tomatoes, banana peppers and okra.  My bell peppers were nibbled at, but I have my eye on the scoundrels who have been partaking of the fruits of my labor. I used the topsy turvey to grow my tomatoes and the vines have grown almost all the way to the ground   from where I hung them on the roof of my covered porch.  Caleb is enjoying picking the tomatoes off the bottom vines, biting them, eating the inside and then spitting the skin out...it is really funny and I am glad that he is eating the inside at least. Now, it is time to tackle the weeds that also decided to grow and thanks to the lawn mower guy who wound my water hose up so tight that now I can't get it undone...I will be tackling that as well...and the unpacked shoes in my floor and the piles of laundry sitting in the front of my washing machine.  At least it is the weekend and at least we made it home safe and sound.  We had a blast in Texas and Louisiana but Caleb and I are ready for some normalcy in our own town, without driving for hours and we missed our friends too!  Plus my little boo bear has an ear infection so we are definitely due for some much needed down time.  I hope you guys have a great weekend, whether you end up resting like us or shopping at the amazing semi annual sales or taking vacation!

Day #2- Turquoise Week

Welcome to Day #2 of Turquoise Week!
Today, there are two great items up for winning.

It doesn't get much cuter than this:

Here is the full description from KDBuggie:
Cupcakes are a "sweet" way to give congrats to a new mom! This cute burpy cupcake is not exception!!
Straying from the norm a little, I decided to make this cute burpy using soft light pink chenille, instead of my vanilla cream. I think it makes it so much cuter!!!
Burpy measures approx. 10"x17" and is large enough to catch all those spits and spills, and can even function as a changing pad in a pinch!

The second giveaway for today comes from diaperbagwrangler.  She is giving you the option of one of the following:

Don't you just love this print? I can see this wet bag coming in very handy this summer!
"Our zippered wet bag can hold several (6 - 8) disposable diapers, plus wipes and other essentials. Cloth diaper? It can hold 2-3 soiled cloth diapers (pocket, hybrid or flatfold). It is also ideal for keeping a change of clothes, swimsuits, snacks, etc."

OR

link loop diaper bag, perfect for on the go moms!

"No more searching for diapers, wipes or essentials when you need them the most. Our multi-purpose link loop diaper bag has a removable plastic ring which allows you to easily attach the bag onto your stroller, shopping cart, etc. It is roomy enough to fit several diapers plus travel wipes and has a large sewn-on Velcro closure that adjusts for a full or "not-so-full" bag.
