Spring and Summer Maternity

It's already super warm down here in the south.
I literally am telling Jesus thank you that I won't be pregnant in the hottest part of our summer!
It's only March and the tanks and sandals are already being worn by just about everyone here in town.  Here are a couple ideas for some fun and fashionable maternity styles for the Spring and Summer.

Both of these purses are actually diaper bags! They double as fantastic purses too though...and if you are like me, I never leave the house without my water!  Especially right now when I can't seem to get enough to drink.

I hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday!

19

How far along? 19 weeks
Maternity Clothes? YES! Since week 10. I stopped in at a huge consignment sale yesterday and grabbed a few great maternity clothes, including $40 pajamas I have been eyeing at Motherhood except I only paid $5!
Stretch Marks? Not yet...I'm hoping the few I got from Caleb will be the only ones I'll have...I gained a lot of weight with him, so that can't hurt this time around, right???
Weight Gain? Oh the dreaded question...15 pounds...woops!
Sleep: Unlike the first trimester, I seem not to require much these days.  I usually get about 6-7 hours.
Best moment this week: Caleb coming over to me, laying his hand on my belly, rubbing it and then leaning down and kissing it...totally out of the blue! Melted my heart!
Miss anything? Yes...my second & third cup of coffee!
Movement: This little one is sooo much more active than Caleb ever was!  The little kicks are so hard sometimes that it tickles really bad.  Seth and Caleb have already been able to feel the kicking too.
Cravings?  Still salty things! Hot dogs, chicken, buffalo dip.  I also have been craving fruit too...especially apples.
Anything make you queasy or sick? If I wait too long between meals/snacks.  Otherwise, as of 2 weeks ago, my nausea for no reason has left the building!
Gender? Well, the ultrasound tech knows, but we are keeping it a BIG SURPRISE!
Labor Signs: No...thank goodness
Symptoms:  I still burp a lot, not as much as I did 1st trimester, but it's still a lot.  I also have sciatic nerve pain on my right side...sometimes it makes me limp!
Belly button in or out? Still in! I have a major inny so it never popped out with Caleb, just kind of leveled out.
Wedding rings on or off? My bands are off but my ring is on.  I waited way too long to take my bands off with Caleb and I almost had to cut them off so I took preventative measures this time and just went ahead and took them off a few weeks ago.
Happy or Moody? This week I have been extremely moody! Before this week I would've said HAPPY but this week I haven't gotten a ton of sleep.
Looking forward to:  Visiting our family in Virginia for Thanksgiving and feeding this baby some turkey, mashed potatoes and chocolate pie!!!

I want to show yall some of the maternity things I got yesterday!

These pajamas for $5

This Liz Lange Ruched T...a purple and a red for $2 a piece!

This Gap white tshirt for $3!

And I got a really cute black and white colorblock tunic too for $3.
I'm not too good for second hand...in fact, I'd say I'm slightly addicted to getting good things second hand!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
We all have so much to be thankful for.

I held off as long as I could...Maternity FASHION!

When I was expecting Caleb, my blog seemed to morph into a pregnancy blog for 9 months.
Thank you to all my loyal followers who stuck with me through my first time mother excitement stage.

This time around, I am trying to stay true to my regular blogging style by not bombarding you with tons of pregnancy posts.
However, I can't help but do a little maternity fashion post today.
It's Friday and I'm feeling stylish as I sit in my overstuffed chair with sweat pants and an old tank on...oh yeah and my hair that hasn't been washed in 3 days all twisted up in a bun on the top of my head.
Doesn't that sound like the ultimate stylin' mommy???
I may look like a ho bo right now but my heart is longing for some of these good lookin' things!

This dress looks like a dream.  It doesn't hurt that the model is probably 110 pounds in real life and just stuck a stuffed baby bump up her dress.  Regardless, it's a beautiful, winter fuschia and it's LYCRA A.K.A a pregnant woman's best friend.  I could see myself wearing this to church or to a Christmas party or wedding.

This long, striped tee looks prefect for a go to top for just about any day of the week for me.  Lots of woman stay away from stripes when expecting, but these small stripes would be flattering on anyone!  I especially like how long it is.  I am 5'9" with a long torso, so finding long enough tops to cover my belly can sometimes be challenging.  I could pair this with jeans or leggings, some cute ballet flats and a chunky sweater for the perfect day look.

Comfy pajamas are a MUST have for any pregnant lady.  These jammies are beautiful and they look amazing!  Plus they double as nursing pajamas, so you can take them to the hospital and wear them afterwards when you have visitors at your house.
Belabumbum Starlit Maternity/Nursing Set

I LOVE this tunic.  I would wear it with leggings and it would probably be my favorite outfit.  I'm a fan of the cute pockets and the contrasting color around the wrists and neckline...very flattering.
NOM Navy Ella Tunic

These skinny jeans look amerrrzing.  They have the stretchy part on the sides and since skinnies are in for everyone, including pregnant gals, I'm a fan of these...now if I only had legs and hips like this model, I would be set!  But seriously, I vote that ALL jeans have stretchy waist bands...if you've never worn them, you don't know what you're missing.  They beat traditional jeans by a mile.
Brand Denim Sable Maternity Legging

Yall...Isabella Oliver is my ALL TIME FAVORITE maternity designer!  If only her price tag met my price range..I would be one happy girl.  This ruched top might be worth the splurge though.  I'll take one in every color.  I'm a huge fan of the ruching that designers have started putting on maternity clothes.  It's so flattering to a baby bump.  I am all about embracing the bump & showing it off and Isabella Oliver knows how to do that!

Isbella Oliver White Scoop Tee

Ruffles ruffles ruffles...I hope they stay in style forever.  I love ruffles! This sweater is the perfect sweater for someone who lives in south Alabama.  I really love the maroon too.  This pregnancy, I have been really drawn to darks...probably because it's slimming...ha!
Pea and the Pod Deep V Ruffle 3/4 sleeve sweater

Eeek! Animal print!!! This is so chic...plus I am a sucker for animal print.  I think this is a great church top paired with black pants and some red heels...oolala! :)
Weston Wear Long Sleeve Boat Neck Top

Oh! My love for Maxi's is unreal.  This maxi is perfection and I really like those boots too!

How comfy and chic is this dress? I like that it's so basic so you can dress it up or down.

This flutter top from Forever21 maternity is gorgeous.  The best part? It's $24.50!

Gap Maternity...you can't go wrong.  Seth bought me this tank in 3 colors & they totally rock.  We found them in the back of a Gap kids on sale for $6 a piece! Regular $20...what a deal! Right now they are on sale for $8.99 though so if you are in the market for some great layering and lounging tanks, these will be your best friend.

I could sit here all day posting about maternity fashion.  Unfortunately, I have some laundry and unpacking to do so that we can all have clothes for the weekend!
I hope your Friday is fab and your weekend is just as great!

Ruby Red

How I love you Ruby Red.  I like you fresh or in the can but I prefer the can because I can eat you anywhere!  In the car or in the bed.  Your bitter sweetness calls my name!

I spilled you on me

Did I mention I ate two of these....for breakfast?  It was wonderful.

Oh little one in my belly, you are determining my every move right now.  Is this a sign of what's to come?  I heard your heartbeat today, it was fast!  You must be working hard to take in some of these calories I've been eating for us ;-)

Pillow Case Maternity or Not Shirt Tutorial

I love making things from pillow cases.  You can find so many neat colors and prints for really great prices.  This is a tutorial of a ruched pillow case top and is even great for a maternity top too!

Start out with a pillowcase of your choice and some matching, stretchy fabric.  I am choosing to use the sleeves from a stretchy shirt that I no longer wear.

Measure the length of your pillow case and cut two strips about 3" shorter than the length of your pillowcase. These are about 5" wide.

Now, cut the top off of your pillowcase.  Cut as little off as possible.

This will leave you with a pillowcase with open ends

Next, cut open each side of your pillowcase.

This will leave you with your two strips and the pillowcase, which has been cut completely apart.

Here is where is may start getting a little confusing.  You are going to take your long strip and starting at the bottom finished edge of one of the pillowcase pieces, you will sew right sides together while slight stretching the strip.  Remember that your strip is 3" shorter than your pillowcase and you want to end up stretching the strip so that it still ends up lining up with the top and bottom of your pillowcase piece.  Stretching the strip while sewing will create a nice ruched look on the sides of your top...you will see in just a minute :)

You have now sewn one strip to one side of the pillowcase.

Grab your other pillowcase piece and do the same thing to it...sewing it to the strip, right sides together while slightly stretching the strip.

Your "top" should look like this.  I like to think it looks like a rectangle butterfly.  The strip in the middle and the two pillowcase pieces sewn on.

Grab your other strip and right sides together, stretch and sew it onto the pillowcase...are you getting the idea?

Here is a picture of me stretching the strip while sewing it onto the pillowcase (note: I am only stretching the strip, not the actual pillow case piece):

If you are still on track with me, your top should look like this:

It's time to finish the top edge of your top...I serged mine but you can just as easily do a zig zag stitch or a hem.

Here is the step where the tube top should start looking like an actual top.  With right sides together, sew the strip onto the only remaining pillow case side that's left, stretching and sewing....last time!

Your top should look like this:

Grab some elastic, any size you would like.  You are going to stretch and sew, with a zig zag stitch, the elastic around the top part of your pillowcase top...making sure that it is tight enough to hold your shirt onto you!

Sew the elastic all the way around until it meets.

Here is what the inside top of your pillowcase top will look like:

Here is what the top will look like when laid flat.  This is where you have the choice to keep going or not.  If you like your top the way it is, then you're done!  I however wanted a little more ruching on the sides, so.........

I cut a couple pieces of elastic and sewed them, while stretching, onto the inside of the strips, on both sides of my top.

It will look something like this on the inside:

Here comes the fun part!  Trying it on!

I added a sash (that doesn't happen to match, but it was handy at the time!)

The ruching creates a fun, flattering side seam.

You may have to alter it a bit.  Take in the sides or add more elastic so it fits better.  It's pretty versatile so you can do a lot of things to it and with it to create a nice fit.

The new thing for maternity wear is ruched sides...making this top perfect for pregnancy too.
Wear it without a sash....

Or with a sash!
AND its great for post pregnancy for hiding the belly and for nursing a baby.

If any of you try this out, will you PLEASE email me a pic???? I would love to see what you come up with!
