Baby in my belly

So, today was our first ultrasound. Unfortunately Seth wasn't able to go, but besides that everything went great! The baby is measuring almost exactly 12 weeks, so my due date will stay Feb. 11, 2009 even though technically (going on the measurements from today)the due date is Feb. 14. They said we are going to stay with Feb. 11 though. I heard the heart beat too! It is very fast. There is some myth that if the heart beat is on the faster side of the scale, then it's going to be a girl and if it is slower, than it is going to be a boy. But my nurse said she didn't believe it because she had seen too many of the opposites come out! They went into all the different tests I can have to check for down-syndrome and cystic fibrosis. Pretty much what I gathered from that is this: If I check for them and they come out positive, there is nothing we can do to fix it. However she said that they like to check for them this early on so that if we decided we didn't want to live with the expense of having a child with a disability, then we can do something about it (I don't even want to use the word, but I think you can gather what she was getting at). Since we aren't going to do anything about our baby regardless of what disability he/she may have, then I see no need in testing for it. Plus, the down-syndrome test that they do at the hospital will give a 1 in 5 chance of a false positive result. So, as not to worry ourselves with needless worry, I don't see these tests as helpful. God gave us this baby and God will make this make to be whatever He wants it to be. God will never give us more than we can handle, so here's to a healthy baby. My next appointment is the end of August and I am already praying that Seth will be able to go. I made it as late in the day as I could, so we will see! Anyways, we are really excited. I am not really showing yet, and I have only gained one pound. I wish I only gained one pound every trimester. That would mean 3 total pounds gained!!! hahaha, I will keep dreaming :)

Yay! That's so exciting! I am so with you on the Down's test! I have never had that one done for the same reasons. I only recently had the cystic fibrosis test done because of the kids (if I am a carrier then they would need to know for when they have kids of their own...thankfully I was negative!).

Thanks for the update, I was thinking about you all day! Isn't it so exciting to see an actual pic of baby! I am so excited for you and Seth! Isn't it unbelievable to think of the miracle that is going on inside you right now?! I totally agree with your decision on the Down's test. God has a plan for everything...including this baby! I will be praying that your munchkin keeps growing healthy and strong! Josh didn't get to go to my first ultrasound either, but it made it that much more exciting when he did get to go with me and hear the heartbeat for the first time! Only 1 pound so far...good for you! :-) Have you tried the bella band yet? Oh, and let me know if you hear any news about Joey...I'm dying to know how she and Bebe are doing! Congrats on the good news and baby's first pic today!

How count! I agree with you on the test. I never had it done either. I figure like you God gave me my child just the way that they were and we could of never of done what the nurse was trying to imply. That is just never a option for us. Hopefully Seth will get to go to you next appointment. Great first baby pic!

YAY!! isn't it SOO amazing to see them for the first time?! I LOVED it!! Feb, doesn't seem too far away!! I heard that myth about the heartbeat too, the heartbeat was always slower with us, and we ended up with a girl, hehe. I agree with you, there's no reason to do the testing, you're going to love your baby no matter what. I had 3 friends [at a military hospital] that had their test come back positive and all 3 of them had perfectly healthy babies. haha I didn't gain weight until I was almost in my 3rd trimester. I hate to tell you but the last month is when you gain it all, I think I gained almost 15 lbs the last month, haha
