It's been too long...plus winner of gift card!

I took a small, unplanned break from the blog.  We have had a bittersweet week and a half.  Last Saturday, my mom called to tell me that a friend I grew up with had been hit by a car and killed.

Seth and I grew up with Ben.  I had known him since 4th grade and Seth had known him since high school.  We had both spent a lot of fun times with Ben.  Seth was on the football team with him and he dated one of my best friends so we found ourselves hanging out in the same groups. Ben and I also grew up in church together and went on many missions trips where we made memories I will never forget.
I cried all day Saturday, a lot of Sunday and at least once every day this past week.  I haven't been able to sleep good.  I've dreamed about Ben almost every night, some are fun dreams where we are all in middle school and high school again and others are just terrible.  Ben was only 25, the same age as we are.  So young to be gone already.  The only peace that we have is that we know Ben was a Christian and that he is in Heaven now.
God also blessed his funeral.  It was held on October 20, what would have been Ben's 26th birthday.  It was a beautiful celebration of Ben and a challenge to all of us to live our lives to serve Christ.  The best part was that several people became Christians as well.
I know that Ben was smiling down that day on all of our bittersweet tears.  I know that if we had any idea how wonderful Heaven truly is, we wouldn't shed one sad tear over Ben because we would know just how happy he finally is but it's going to be really difficult to never be able to see his beautiful smile again.
When we heard of Ben's passing, we made plans to drive to Virginia.  We saw so many friends from high school and we were able to spend time with Ben's aunt Melanie who was like his mother.  Melanie threw me a shower when Seth and I got married and she has been a family friend of ours since I could remember.  It was a difficult time for everyone but I think especially Melanie.  Ben was truly a son to her and my heart breaks for her right now.  I can't even imagine what it would be like to ever lose Caleb.  I believe she found comfort though in seeing all of his friends at his funeral and hearing stories of how Ben had played such an important role in all of our lives.

We spent a week in Virginia and we were able to see my family.
My mom took the cutest pictures of Caleb while we were there.

Holding up the wood stack...he's pretty strong!

Uh oh! Looks like he's in trouble.

He is such a ham...he pulled out all of his good moves for this photo shoot!

Caleb had a fun time with all of them and he was spoiled rotten.  We were able to go to an apple orchard and pumpkin patch one day and we had such a good time.

Caleb also had a blast riding around on the four wheeler with his Cack Cack (my dad).  Made us wish we lived closer to family.
My dad's face in this is priceless..haha!

With all of that said, we are back in Alabama and gearing up for a big Halloween weekend.  I can't wait to dress Caleb in his costume and take him trick or treating.
I missed blogging and I am glad to be back!

I also want to announce the winner of the gift card from My Creative Peace:

DIY Pine Cone Garland

You will need about pinecones and some sturdy string (I used kite string!)

Wrap the string around the pine cone 3-4 times

Then secure the string to the pine cone with some good ol' hot glue

Then you hang it!!!
I love the pine cone one because I can leave it up for Christmas if I want.  Can you imagine how pretty it would be to wind lights around the string too?
I found the pine cones in my yard and I already had the string, so this was a free project for me to do.  You know what else?  You could buy those cinnamon pine cones from the craft store and have a good smellin' garland.
The wheels are turning over here :)

P.S. Do you like my new fall blog header???  If you are interested in having your own, send me an e-mail! retrogalusa@aol.com

My fall wreath!

Supplies...check

Final product!
I made it "au naturale"
Mostly from stuff out of our yard...pine cones, sticks, the usual.
I like that our last name begins with "W"...a very easy letter to conjure up from old twigs.
Caleb even got in on the action.
His craft involved taking all the glue sticks out of the bag and lining them up on the table.
He was very proud of his final product.

I also took Caleb out for a special Friday treat.
He chose a sprinkle donut
We sat down to eat and he proceeded to bite and lick every last sprinkle off the top of his donut and even tried to eat the ones he had dropped on the floor.

Then he asked for more sprinkles...

See this delicious food? It's a boiled egg loaded with tons of PEPPA!!!  Seth thinks I'm crazy for eating these....especially when I eat them in the bed while we are watching TV together.  He gags and says it smells like rotten eggs....go figure...bahaha
Happy Weekend!
Ooooo I just LOVE Fridays!!!

I Love 4 days!!!

One good thing about the Army: they give amazing 4 day weekends for federal holidays!  Minus a few temper tantrums (from all 3 of us) and taking half a day to clean...we had so much fun!

Played football while we waited for the Georgia game to come on

We all matched!

Made Kool-Aid for the FIRST time...it was a hit

Snacked on these:

Caught up on some beauty sleep

Gave some sugar!

Wore high buns all weekend...well at least I did ;-)

It's here folks

September is here!
I may not have a sweater and boots on yet but I did find a purple tank and some orange earrings to help get me in the fall mood...afterall, Halloween comes in at a close second (to July 4th) for favorite holiday.

My sweetie peatie Caleb Easton has been such a good buddy this week.
He watched toons in bed with me yesterday morning while I tried to talk myself into getting up and getting going.
Some days, that is so hard to do.
Please notice the cheese nips in the background.  A Mr. Wade special.  He snacks before bed and I always laugh when I go to clean his snack up the next morning...I say laugh loosely here.

Mr. Wade also came home early from work the other day to spend time with us.
We had such great conversation.

I'm already gearing up for Saturday's big event...the kick off of college football.
Mr. Wade has been keeping track of the days left until he gets to watch football every Saturday.
We will be rooting for the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Who are you rooting for?

It's HOT!

It is so hot around here and I hate to say it, but I am ready for fall weather!  I know it's only August and I live in south Alabama so there are still plenty of hot days left to "enjoy" but I am ready to be able to be outside ANY time of day!  How about yall? Do you want summer to last forever or are you looking forward to cooler weather and football games?
Here are a few of my favorite fall inspirations...everything from fashion to decorations!
